Just as the title says. I'm in the market for a new rod now. What's the best bang for your buck consensus these days? I had a cabellas I forgot the model around 100 bucks. 9 foot 5 weight. I just got the 4/5 Colorado Ross reel what should I pair it with? I mostly fish alpine lakes for cutts but do a little of everything. Was chasing carp today. Thanks.

  1. Why get a cheap rod with a nice reel? There are plenty of nice options at sierra trading post.

Bang for your buck is not any Ross reel lol. But if that’s the logic probably an Orvis recon.

  3. I got the Echo trout X 9’5wt in December for $500. I love it and it has a lifetime warranty

  4. Get a rod you can warranty economically like an echo or tfo. I have replaced the tip section of my shadow 2 probably 4-5 times since I got it in 2017.

I have also replaced sections of rods that have been discontinued by tfo, they still do production runs for everything except the butt section.

  5. Hard to say lots of great options, what do you want to spend? If you’ve been fishing for a while you’re really gonna feel a better rod. If I was going to pair that reel it would be a Winston pure 2. Mid range option I’d vote Douglas upstream or upstream plus. Low level I’d go redington classic trout.
