Hi guys!! Brand new Betta owner here! I am a college student and for my animal behavior class, we studied betta fish. At the end of the experiment, we got to take our fish home! I have never owned a fish before but I love this lil guy and really wanna do it right! Any help is so appreciated 🙂
I added real plants, rinsed the rocks to get rid of any dust or debris, and I used both of the API products and left the water out overnight before introducing Pearl to the tank. I also have a filter and 2 water heaters set to 75° F.
He usually just sticks to the left side of the tank behind the big leaf, but has been coming into the open when I sit in front of the tank and talk to him 😀

Betta cannot have any plastic fake plants it can cut their fins, instead try getting some real aquatic plants and even silk fake plants, the colored rocks gotta go, you can use sand or natural rocks, try getting from Home Depot, you can use play sand or small river rocks!, make sure to give them a few washes since they do have dust! Make sure the water flow isn’t moving to much since they do not like a lot of water flow! You can even add some pothos or bamboo to the top of the tank only roots in for these plants, since they will rot submerged in water! I would also suggest getting a API freshwater master test, expensive but worth it! Happy fish keeping!
