Fish help! 🐟
Today is day 7 of Kanaplex for my betta Mac (mixed with Focus in his food). I originally started treatment because he had pretty bad fin rot.
I’ve been doing small water changes every day, keeping the tank in low light, and adding Indian almond leaves for extra support. Last night I noticed he looked kind of spikey—like his scales were sticking out a bit—and I’m worried.
He’s still eating, but I’m not sure if this means things are getting worse or if it’s part of recovery. Has anyone seen this happen before after antibiotics, and what should I do next?

Tank size: 6 gallons, heater yes 79 degrees, filter yes sponge filter, his ammonia was high but I changed 60% and is stable again all other levels look ok besides high ph, I’ve had him 2 years, I do weekly water changes or 25% ish, 2 assasin snails, Fluval bug bite pellets, Amazon sword plant and octopus plant and driftwood. I use prime for water conditioner.
Please anyone help me 🙁
I’m sorry OP, but it might be safe to let him live out his life. Pineconing is a telltale sign of his organs filling up with fluid, which is often caused by dropsy ( it can be other things though ) treatment can be rough, especially with epson salt baths. As long as he’s eating, let him be comfortable in his own tank. If he starts to gasp ( which he sorta looks like he’s doing in the photos, I would think about euthanasia ) clove oil is a go to. Kanaplex is usually recommended for 3 days minimum, and is known to crash cycles
