Hi! I need some advice on how to handle my sick betta fish, Ghost. The first two photos was his state around six weeks ago, the other photos are his current state.
The tumor was first noticed seven weeks ago and he was put in quarantaine immediately. I treated him and it seemed to help at first with the tumor.
After two weeks, I put him back in his regular tank, but last week I noticed he was getting worse and worse. His fins are turning more grey, they are ripping, he is losing skin and his tumor is growing again. He still eats, but he is losing activity and spends most of his day in the spot you see in the picture.
I have worked with vets and I know how to euthanize a fish with clove oil, but I’m wondering if it’s necessary already. I care about the fish and I don’t want to put him down, but I don’t know what’s the humane thing to do right now.
Can any of you give me advice on what to do now? Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry but you seem to know it’s the end.
Most people say clove oil. It’s just suffocating the fish but most humane I think is smashing or just a fatal cut.
You gave him a long happy life but I know it can be hard to lose our fishes.
He’s a beautiful fish and you gave him the best life you could in the time he had left. If he’s not moving much/ eating well or just seems generally depressed then I’d say it’s time. Don’t use Clove oil though, it’s still painful for bettas as they are labyrinth breathers. It’d just suffocate him slowly.
Clove oil suffocates fish. And its even more painful and causes neurological damage for bettas or any air breathing fish , if not kulled in the process. Theres nothing backing it up and is really just word of people. A blunt hit to the head with any hard object is the best way to do it if needed
