I just picked this baby up from her previous owner, she was being picked on a bit in her sorority. I'm concerned by just how ROUND she is. I tried to include photos of her belly. I know she was with a male for a short while, is there any chance she's pregnant or bloated? Or is this just what females look like? I've only ever had males.

She's also a crowntail, but do her fins look rotted or tucked in or anything? Is there anything specific I can do to help her settle in? TIA!

Her new tank is 10gal, yes with a heater and filter. 80 degrees. I use the API test kit for parameters every week. I’ve had the tank set up for over a year and just put her in to acclimate about 5 min ago. She has two platy tankmates and one emerald cory. The tank has hiding spots, and plenty of floating and rooted plants.

She just looks very fat. There is a chance she is egg bound but if you just got her, she’s probably on the younger side so not sure. If I were you, I would feed her very lightly every other day for a bit and see if she thins out and then go from there.

The way she looks is concerning, no lie. Because she was in a sorority and being picked on, she has lost a great amount of fin. it could also be fin rot, but most likely her tank makes fin nipping.

Did her previous owner overfeed her? Her belly is extremely large and may be from overfeeding or dropsy. Dropsy is pretty much impossible to cure for most, but there have been people who have cured dropsy. Dropsy is usually fatal, so if she isn’t being treated, she is definitely going to pass. It doesn’t look like her scales are lifted, so I’m hoping that it’s just overfeeding.

Your set-up is already awesome, especially the tannins. I’d fast her for 24-48 hours and see if her belly goes down. If it really is just overfeeding, then she will recover. As long as your water parameters are good and not toxic, she will regrow her fins, and with proper feeding, she will thin out. Anyone can fact-check me if I’m wrong

She could also be egg-bound, not too sure about that, but that belly definitely needs to be watched

Shes not in the best shape but not super bad either. Fins look nipped probably from being picked on in the sorority. Super bloated as well so fast her for a few days and see how it is. I think shell have a glowup in her new home tho. Goodluck op!
