Is this a good rig for surf fishing? I’m using 3 oz spider weight but in the past my bait has drifted so far away so I’m wondering if I need more weight?

It depends, where i fish 3oz works but it doesn’t stay put.

Its good. I prefer using bulldozer or pyramid sinkers. But if I want to maximize casting distance, torpedo.

Looks good to me, close enough to what I use. Up the weight if it’s rolling down the coast a little too fast for your liking. I throw 4-7 oz sputniks for the surf usually and 2-3 on calmer back bays.

Your rod will determine how heavy your weight can be. 3 is usually sufficient under normal conditions. Look up “fish finder rigs”. similar to that. Steel leader with a heavy mono leader behind with a sliding weight between two beads. Great for drum and sharks

Always 4 /6 oz on normal days . Chucked 9 out before on a really bad day .
