This is my first betta, I got him back in April 2025.
I attached some reference photos of what he looked like when I first got him. I’m not sure if betta tails are supposed to look wavy/curly at the ends?
Excuse his flaring, he hunts snails down occasionally.
Let me know what y’all think please!

Tank size: 6.5 gallons
Heat & filter?: Yes to both
Tank temperature: ~77°f
Ammonia: 0ppm

Had the tank for 8 months and the betta for 7 months now.
Water change: ~25% every 2 weeks, siphoning excess detritus off of sand & plants.
Tankmates: Hitchhiking snails, nothing else.
Feed: Regularly “Hikari Betta bio-gold”, 5 pellets 2x/day.
Plants: Anubias, Reineckii mini, Java fern, helanthium tenellum ‘green’, Weeping moss, pothos, bacopa caroliniana.
Decor: driftwood, smooth lava rocks, aquasoil/sand.
Is there anything scratchy in the tank that he regularly visits by chance? Do betta fish visually age? 😂 Like this is their version of going grey?
If I didn’t know any better, that’s a beautiful looking fish with super healthy fins, the more colorful and longer they are the healthier and happier the fish, well done, look into betta fish fin transitions for more info.
He looks amazing to me! Is there anything you were worried about specifically? The fins do look “different” but I don’t see anything that jumps out as sickness and they’ve gotten much longer and fuller from first photos!
