this morning i went to feed my fish and he was not moving. he was kind of just resting on his plants.

his tank was a bit dirty because i was out of town and i hadn’t had the chance to clean it. he lives in a 2.5 gallon tank with natural plants and a filter. i was saving up to upgrade him to a 5 gallon.

his body is extremely bloated and his swimming weird. he still wants to eat but i stopped feeding him today after ready several post. I put him in a temporary tank with half new water and half old water from his previous tank. I’m not sure if i should feed him half a pea after 2 days? i really don’t want him to die it’s been 7 months that i’ve had him and it’s the first time something like this happens. he doesn’t have pine coning , should i give him medicine right now?

i’d say put him in a hospital with aquarium salt to help with the swim bladder issue

    What type of filter?

The best supportive care you can give is lots of oxygenation, very clean water (extra water changes, the water needs to be crystal clear for healing), and low temperature (72 to 74F).
