Hi all. This is Grim. He’s my betta I’ve had since early April, I got him pretty young. When I first got him he was all black besides a sliver of white, and then over time he’s turned clear on his fins and peach on his body. It’s not old age. He has a great appetite, loves to interact with me, energetic, yet is chill at night and is cool with his snail tank mate in his 5gal tank. Surely he’s not sick, so what’s happening with him? Marble gene maybe? Just curious!

Watch him closely. I’m having something similar where my betta’s fins are losing their color, and I’ve been asking if it’s fin rot but I haven’t got any actual answers yet.

How are your water parameters? I’m new to this but my local fish guy has been raining bettas for 50 yrs and he told me that bettas lose their color when they’re stressed

Your betta is unhealthy. Bad fin rot and bloated. Look at the edges of his fins and look how swollen his belly is. Sheesh

a betta turning clear means it’s extremely stressed. so yes he is sick. you need to make sure his water is perfectly clean. the flow from the filter should be very very light. your heater should stay at about 78F. does he have places to rest and hide?

Yes, water is clear. Low filter pressure, and he has a water heater for 78°. And yes, places to hide , arches and holes. – he primarily likes to stay close to the front of the tank though. Any ideas as to what has him stressed then?? He seems so fine compared to previous bettas I’ve had behavior wise.
