I got my betta just a bit over a week ago. Ive never had a beta before! Hes in a 5.5 heated tank! Hes eating well and occasionally will flare his fins in the tank when the light is on.( idk if this helps) I noticed after a few days of being with me, his front fin started to look like it may of been damaged. Im just trying to seek help to see if maybe it could possibly be fish rot or he just injured his fin. Thank you so much!! Any advice is helpful! I also performed about a 50% water change last night as well

Do you have any indian / catappa leaves? I suggest adding a lot to his tank to help his healing in case it’s rot. It is also anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and helps betta a lot.
