MY CAT ALMOST KILLED MY BETTA!
On the day she was supposed to go in her tank, I was acclimatising her in a small bowl and totally forgot about it for 15 mins. When I came back after cleaning my other tank I noticed one of my cat had tossed her out. PANICCC!
I just couldn't find her. I checked everything around thoroughly. This was happening in my balcony and I gave up and went to my wife saying "I guess one of our cat ate the betta 😭". She couldn't believe it either. That is when I literally check opened my cats mouth to see if I smell or see anything and found nothing. So we went back and resumed our search operation. There's this drainage hole in the corner which was the obvious guess, so I put on my gloves, checked and negative. As I was removing my gloves I noticed something shining in the corner. That's when i learned that had used splash (previously thought to be useless magicarp move) and somehow secured herself in the gap between the cat litterbox and wall. Found her covered in dirty. Disheartened. 2 seconds later I saw her mouth opening to breathe. I JUMPED SHOUTING SHE'S ALIVEEEEEE. Without hesitating I picked her up and tossed in a mug. She was injured, saw blood coming out a few millimetres behind the head. Must be the cat's nail. Well she was moving around. I immediately prepared a methylene blue solution and dipped her in. Kept her in there for 2 days with almond leaves and a pinch of salt. On the 3rd day I saw the scales were missing and honestly I thought it had gotten worse. That's when I called in a friend of mine who is a ichthologist (people who study fish). He said she'll live and nothing to worry about its part of the healing process and will take a month to completely recover.
Chaotic experience made me shift my tanks from the balcony and in my opinion this setup looks even betta!
Last 2 pictures are of my new setup.
