For context I moved 15 hours to AZ and ever sense then my bettas find look terrible my water is so hard it’s making there fins shrivel I can’t ago something to filter the water and I’m thinking about giving them up to an experienced person with fish in AZ and have a good filter system they look terrible right now I and I want them to have a better life than this 🙁

  1. A simple PUR filter on your tap will improve your water a bunch. They’re cheap and readily available. Don’t give up yet. Good for you, too. Good luck 👍

  2. Fellow AZ resident! I feel your struggles. Investing in a reverse osmosis filter for your sink is the best option. It’s easy enough to install but it’s more expensive than a pur filter on the tap. Either option is good! I just prefer the RO system.

    Az resident here to. My betta has been thriving even brought him back to health with tap water and seachem prime. Can always buy Rodi water at the LFS, for about .80 per gallon.

    Are you sure your filtration is adequate? Fin rot is mainly a consequence of excessive organic waste in the tank (unrelated to ammonia/nitrite/nitrate, which are inorganic), creating a breeding ground for the type of bacteria that cause fin rot.
