So I bought this sponge filter since a lot of people told me it is a lot better than a hang in place the back one. I had to watch a few videos on how to set it up, but finally did it, but no matter what I do, the airstone won’t fit, so the top of the filter is just opened. is this a bad thing? is it bad to maybe tray and cut the plastic tip of the airstone? should I get a new airstone? or should I just leave it how it is? (pictures included for the project I bought and how it looks set up)

Airstone as in the actual stone? Mine has an attachment for the air tube to connect the air pump to the sponge filter thing at the top of it, inside the clear tube.
Maybe it’s an either/or situation? I had a HOB filter and an air stone, I bought a sponge filter and just took the air stone off of the rubber hosing I already had and stuck it right on the sponge filter and it functions as a filter and air stone combined.
