I just got him today. He's really active and has eaten a bit, but his eyes look "overgrown" to me(?). Is something wrong or am I overreacting?

Unfortunately, this is common for samurai bettas. He may be able to see right now, but the scales could grow over his eyes and cover them. They tend to go blind in their adult years, and many remain very active fish that just need a bit of extra help. Training him with a feeding ring now is a good way to ensure he can find his food in the future, blind or not.
