Why does this chain pickerel have very little chain like pattern

It’s pickerel unchained.
But really ecosystem and genetics will cause variance in pattern and color. Light intensity, the water clarity, and the surrounding ‘background’ all factor in aswell as their individual variance in genetics.
Edit: environments with less vegetation or turbidity the pattern can be faded so they blend in and can ambush prey better.
