This is a very old fly fishing rod I got for free. All it has are the 2 moveable rings on the grip. I would like to get in to fly fishing but I am not sure how you put a reel on here, and if the rings have anything to do with it.

Looks like an old fly rod of some sort. You use the rings to cinch against the ends of the reel’s foot. As long as the cork isn’t too worn it should hold well.
I’ve had some travel rods like that. Rings slide over each end of the reel base they wedge the reel snug to the rod handle.

Yeah, they’re just slip fit rings
