I was away for a month. (my father was taking care of my fish) and this little guy went from brown to black and blue! is this a normal thing? I've had a white male turn a navy blue and another fishtail turned darker and blue but he was always dark. I'm so confused..
picture 1 is what he looks like now and 2 pic 2 is what he looked like the three months i had him before my month away…

bettas definitely do change colors, but is there any chance he replaced it, that’s such a drastic change!

I’ve heard bettas often will change color depending on age, stress levels, and health, usually when they lose color (go pale) they are stressed or unhealthy, so looks like your fish is doing pretty good!
My platinum is slowly turning dark too 🤭 I got him as pure white and now he is pinkish but i’m seeing some black surfacing. It’s awesome how bettas change color in care.
Looks like your guy has the marbling gene. He may continue to change color!
It’s fairly common for non-iridescent white areas to dark when they are less stressed too!
