  1. Most people cast with one hand and reel with the other. For righties that means left hand reel. It’s personal preference though, some folks like to cast and reel with the same hand.

From what I can tell from the photo it is set up for right hand retrieve. Not sure if it is reversible.

  3. You’ve turned it into a puzzle by splitting it in 2 and turning it upside down. If it’s in one piece the line should come out the bottom of the reel to the rod and when you pull the line you should feel the drag. If the handle is then on the right, it’s a right hand wind, if on the left it’s left hand.

It looks like the pawls are symmetric, so you could set this reel up for left or right hand retrieve. You’d have to flip the reel around on the rod and load the line in the opposite rotation. I had to do this with all my father’s reels last month (all the ones that were symmetric pawls) since he was a cast-with-right, switch-hands, retrieve-with-right kinda guy. I prefer the cast with right, retrieve with left for fly/bait-caster/spin-caster, but some folks like to switch hands on the retrieve – personal preference.
