I have been cycling for around a month now and this is what my water has been coming back as. I have wisteria, golden pennywort, 1 Amazon sword, ambulia around the back and duck weeds (ph is getting lowered with almond leaves) is everything looking okay. Also any good all in one fertiliser recommendations would be helpful as I’m trying to switch from flourish and flourish excel!

  1. Yes looks good. Keep an eye on the nitrite for a fish in cycle and do those 50% water changes if you see the readings appear at or over 0.5ppm. Right now it looks good.

Coming over from /r/plantedtank the honest answer will depend on your tank’s pH. Seeing as your API pH reading in this photo is 7.6, can you post a high pH result as well? Assuming your pH is between 7.2 to 7.8, I would recommend NilocG’s Thrive all in one fertilizer. If your tank is low tech you only have to dose it once a week. As to why this fertilizer, its mixture will work up to a pH 7.5 before its effectiveness is reduced. Above a pH of 8 you will need supplements for certain nutrients.

While another popular brand is Aquarium Co-op’s Easy Green, I would not recommend Aquarium Co-op all in one if your tank’s pH is above 7 as you will need an additional supplement for iron. Cheaper to just use Thrive.

Also for flourish excel, only use this to kill algae. Do not use it as a carbon source, you are better served just increasing surface agitation for more co2 into your aquarium. The only true “liquid co2” on the market is plain old seltzer water at your local grocery store if you really wanted to temporary increase your tank’s co2 levels to 20-30ppm.

I would definitely wait till that nitrite is down to 0. Personally if I notice any ammonia or nitrite in my tanks, I do a water change
