This is my first aquarium! Schopen, a betta I recently rescued, lives in it. The aquarium is 27 liters and also houses two shrimp and two snails. All the water parameters are correct, and it has a heater and a hang-on-back filter (I removed the lid for the photos). My plan is to add more plants, three more snails and about five more shrimp soon. Do you think Schopen is happy here? I look forward to your opinions!

  1. Looks absolutely great! Props to you, I’ve rarely seen first time aquarium people get it this right!

I wouldn’t overstock the tank. One betta and maybe 1-2 snails is more than enough. People keep saying shrimp are great at cleaning but I found when I had them with my betta all they did was poop all over. There were little shrimp poop pellets everywhere. Every time I siphoned it was soooo much. Lesson learned. Just something to keep in mind. I don’t keep snails but I think they’re also quite the poop machines. In a small tank it’ll mean more cleaning and water changes, although you’ve got a good number of plants in there as well. For future reference, bettas also prefer long over tall tanks. But lovely setup.
