New to hobby, how can I improve my planted tank?

  1. Tbh just the substrate imo. All personal preference but I cannot get behind the colored stuff for the life of me

    You’re going to absolutely hate my answer 😅. Especially since it’ll remove some of your beneficial bacteria. With that said, I recommend ditching the colored decorative rock all together. You need a good substrate to grow hairgrass. Things will struggle growing in that. This isn’t my tank 😅 but I googled aquascapes with hairgrass and this one looked like a good one to share with you. Just to give you ideas.

    Honestly, if you’re serious, I’d look into aquascaping. Photos. Youtube videos. You’ll get some great ideas looking over these types of tanks. Much better than any advice we can give. All the beautiful planted aquascapes have one thing in common though, good substrate to help the plants grow. Just food for thought.
