I’ve been in love with fly fishing for about ten years now, and I’ve had the pleasure of fishing lots of rivers and streams in a few different states, and I gotta say….fishing small streams for small fish in my local mountains is what really makes me happy. Am I always hoping for that big old bastard hiding in a deep hole way in the backcountry? Of course. But I don’t really have much desire to fish big rivers in a drift boat or anything like that. I’m not the only one, right?

  1. Fishing is #1 about being outside and experiencing nature. I love days on the drift boat on the Green River and hunting for pigs in bigger water, but sometimes I just want to blue line it for 6″ brooks taking dries half a mile from any trail or road.

  2. Not at all. There’s something really satisfying about just small stream fishing. I’m in an area where it’s equidistant from salmon this time of year and small trout. I went out for salmon today, but will be going to my “comfort” stream on Sunday. The biggest trout I’ve pulled out of there is like 10inches.

Nah, you’re not the only one. There’s something uniquely satisfying about building an intimidate knowledge of your home stream.

  4. I’m that guy who goes fishing not to catch fish, I just like being outdoors. If I catch one good. If I don’t , no big deal.
