So I want to do pier, shore, and surf fishing all in hopes to catch redfish or any medium sized fish.

I haphazardly bought an 8ft UglyStik marketed for catfishing for its medium-heavy rating, but didn't consider the eyelets.

The reel is a Pflueger Pres35.

It's a casting rod paired with a spinning reel, and the first eyelet seems small – is this a significant problem?

  1. While it does technically work, it’ll definitely reduce your casting distance and its far from an ideal set up.

  2. maybe not ideal but ugly stiks are tanks and that reel is solid too. i’d fish with it anyway and just save up for a proper surf rod if you really get into it.
