Thought they were bluegill at first, but they bite very hard on the bait and fought nicely for their size. Caught in Spring Creek, TX

  1. Definitely some species of sunfish, of which bluegill is one. Possibly Longear but could be a blended hybrid of some kind too.

Looks more like a green sunfish to me. The colorings are very similar, but the dorsal fin on a bluegill follows the curve of the spine. Green sunfish dorsal fin kinda swoops up at the back, just like the one in your picture.

  3. Looks like a pumpkinseed to me but it has a lot of defining features from different fish so im not sure!

  4. Green sunfish or some type of sunfish. Very fun to catch, Hella aggressive. Ive caught them on wacky rigs intended for bass. How they got that in their mouth is beyond me.

  5. It’s a bluegill, feed that little one to birds or raccoons. Don’t throw it back in. They reproduce all summer long and can stunt all the fish in a pond.
