This is my seven year old goldfish living in a 40 gallon tank by itself. Water parameters are all within normal limits. For about four years this mass has started to form and enlarge, now changing color. He doesn’t appear to be affected by it all, swimming happily and eating normally, continuing to grow. We are worried this could be something harmful and are unsure what could be causing it. All suggestions or thoughts are appreciated!

  1. If it’s taken 4 years to grow it’s just a benign tumor. A lot of goldfish get them. I wouldn’t worry about it unless you see sudden changes or adverse effects on the quality of life.

  2. Its a cancerous tumour, its ugly but cancer doesn’t seem to be a death sentence to fish , you could get a vet to cut it off but the operation is as likely to kill the fish as the cancer is.
