Betta Fish

Betta Fish: First betta! Cowboy is his name and he is a very curious and active fish. He lives in a 3gal tank that’s been in a fishless cycle and the parameters are 7.0 Ph level, 0.25ppm Ammonia, 0ppm Nitrite, and 0-5ppm Nitrate. Any tips, advice, or suggestions? 75-82F is what his temp sits at normally.


I have been adding beneficial bacteria daily (3ml for 3gal of water) and we have 3 more days of that until hopefully there’s 0ppm Ammonia. We feed him twice a day and only what he can eat in 30sec-1min. We want him to be as comfy as possible and we could use the help being first time fish/betta parents.

    Also, is the slightly murky water due to the Mopani wood piece? Or is it due to the black substrate I have under the gravel?

    Lastly I researched plants for bettas and I got him an Anubias. I read it isn’t good to plant in the gravel so I have it tucked under the Mopani wood…is that okay? Will it still grow?
