I took the penn battle 5000 out yesterday and put it on a Berkley big game rod a 8 foot version. The penn rod came in broken in shipping. I put 65 pound braid and 20 pound mono backing on the penn. Overall its very smooth and on the Berkley big game rod its lighter than the penn rod.
I didn't catch anything on the penn yesterday but I would highly reccmond it after spending a few hours with it the later versions of the penn battle are bound to be better but the original i think my dad will like it will make a good trolling rod for sure.
