right now i have my male betta in there (i tried to add him to my 10 gal community and it didn’t go well) i set up a new 10 gal for him and plan to transfer him soon. i’m not sure what to put in the 5 gallon. its a 5 gallon tall so im not sure if its suitable for a long finned betta 🙁

  1. Shrimp are your best bet. Especially because you have a lot of plants which will provide them cover. I would however recommend that you add rock work and caves to the bottom for them to have extra hides which encourages breeding.

    Now, it’s a betta. So the chances are 50/50 on whether it’ll eat the shrimp or not. It will eat the babies if it can catch them, same with adults unless they’re too big. But again, if your betta is a pit bull, there’s no chance.

    Reworking the bottom and adding ^ will give the shrimp a good chance to survive and keep the population up, especially once the plants grow in. So if you’re ok with losing shrimp on occasion, then this might be an option for you. It’ll recreate the bettas natural environment and provide him stimulus aka enrichment in zoos.
