I say yes to background. Your tank has a lot of open space and from my experience the backgrounds make the fish look even more stunning when they’re out in the open

I’m a believer in backgrounds. Hides equipment and cords but also, my wall isn’t really something you’d see in nature. I had good luck with plain black behind a planted tank but lots of options can work.
