So it’s been cycling for about a month… I don’t even know what happened if I’m being so honest. I’m confused. Do I just start over at this point, or is there a way to bounce back from this? I’m going to look into floating plants soon to try and maybe help balance this out. Also going to bring out a HOB filter to add to my sponge filter?

  1. The nitrite spike takes majority of the cycling time, completely normal. Don’t change the filter or clean too much. Make sure the tank is oxygenated. It sometimes takes longer but it will cycle soon. No point of testing for nitrates (no3) while nitrites are so high, you will have false (high) readings.

  2. Nah, there is rarely a need to start over when it comes to cycling.

First thing first – is this a fish-in or fishless cycle?
