I’m not sure if this is the right place for this but I recently started fishing around a month or 2 ago and my mom got me 2 old fishing rods that id like to use their reels are a 310 GTI penn and i believe the other one is a shakespheare tidewater 30L, but on to the main point. The reels are ancient and i had to take them apart basically for them to spin they are having an issue where when i turn on the drag it really doesn’t drop it unless i loosen the thing where the second set of gears is. They spin and reel back but they don’t really cast unless i turn off the “line out alarm” i believe that is what its called. Lmk if that is normal or what i have to do to repair them i already found that its the gears in the left side of the reel covers that make them not release the line but only when the cover is screwed on all the way and the line out alarm is on. Any help is appreciated.
Tried posting this on r/fishing and it got taken down

I’m having a hard time understanding. You shouldn’t be casting with the line alarm on anyway. Are you tightening the round knob on the right side of the first pic? That’s the spool tensioner adjustment.
Line alarm stays off unless you need to use it as an alarm
What are you fishing for? Those are both pretty big reels.
Also, the casting setting (spool release) on both reels is controlled by the lever on the right side of the reel.
