My boyfriend’s birthday is in a few months and I want to get him something that’s useful and nice to have!

I know that he recreationally fishes at lakes and very rarely at the ocean. What I’ve learned so far is that he uses a drop shot and doesn’t like using live bait.

He has two boxes of lures- (forgive my lack of knowledge) one with soft/gummy-like baits and the other with harder plastic (I know he has chatter bait). I also know that he has a rod cover, bass pro “stalker sling pack” bag, and a one piece rod that he recently got! When I do go fishing with him he does use the gummy like lures more.

I know he liked the pokemon bait that was released, but he said he would never use it. He also mentioned wanting to get a new line spooled because he needed to replace the current one he has. Sadly, I can’t just grab his rod since it’s always in his car!

When we went to bass pro, I remember watching him stare at some braided line versus the normal smooth ones. Would it be silly to just buy a new spinning reel with the new thread already spooled on? I’ve attached the two photos I got without him noticing.

I love this man very much, so spending limit is $500! I would love to gift him something that’s useful that would last as long as possible!

I live far from my local bass pro and would love to go there only once. I would really love some suggestions and brands! (Thank you for reading this far haha)

I’d get him a gift certificate and he’ll him just what you said. That you want him to get him something useful that will last a long time and let him decide what he needs most. Fisherman can be finicky about particular products and you don’t want to spend a bunch of money on something he wishes was just a little bit different. Would be a great present.

Order him a spool of the braided 10-12 lb test and then see what they have on clearance. That’s how I get my lures and tackle. Now is a great time to get fishing gear since winter is coming and hunting season is on most sporting goods stores’ inventory planners

Bass Pro gift cards! You can’t go wrong with them. For the past 20 years, Bass Pro gift cards have been the go-to birthday and Christmas gift that my wife, my daughter, my siblings, and my parents have given me. As a result, I have a constant replenishing cache of “Bass Pro money” and I have rarely had to spend my own money on tackle.
