(Pics of lure options and rod setup)

I live in Cleveland and shore fish lake eries central basin and a little bit of inland lakes with my buddy on his boat.
I’m bored of steelhead fishing right now and understand pike come shallow for fall to fatten up and spring to mate.
I have a MH 8ft rod with a 200 size reel spooled with quality 17lb floro I use for bigger bass baits. And it handles very well with swim baits and up to 4oz.
I’m planning a trip Friday to go hit a marina and the boulder breakwalls around the edgewater area.
I want a real pike, and with water temps reaching 54-50f and dropping slowly, I’m really hoping now’s the time I can get the bite I’m after.
I have to buy some what size should I go? We don’t have those 45+inches here as much as I would like. So the average is probably 30in give or take.

Any tips on lures or areas to key in on would be great. I know 17lb floro isn’t strong like 50lb braid but I’m told it’s fine if I use a leader.

  1. Sounds like the 17lb is plenty strong enough for anything you would catch. Pike are ambush predators and will hit anything when in the mood. I like flashy lures. Even something like a spinner bait that you would use for bass will pound the pike. Try weed edges where they can ambush prey coming by.
