Never had or wanted a fish finder until recently. With that I'm not looking for something crazy expensive either. I'm considering a $500 budget. I may go more if it's justifiable. Thank you for your time. Lowrance and Garmin seem to have the best reviews. I'm just looking for personal recommendations.

A Garmin Striker 4, plus mounting and a battery should be very doable under $500. My buddy has one and it’s a great deal for the performance.
I set up a Garmin Striker Vivid 4 CV on a YakAttack CellBlok and Switchblade with a 10ah Nocqua battery and I really like it. The whole setup should be within your budget.
