Been using this setup from late summer until now and this issue is progressively getting worse and worse. Primarily using inline spinners. I have enough weight to cast, it’s just once my lure hits the water my line turns into an old phone cable. I believe the line is 6# mono and may be what the reel was strung with when purchased. Thank you in advance

Line memory
Let us see the spool before throw. Maybe too much line. Maybe you have to catch the line a bit when it hits the water. Hard to tell.
There’s no tension probably cause the weight of the line is more than whatever lure you have on.
How old is the line? The older it is the more it will do this cause it sat like that. Obviously the quality affects this as well.
Some people say if you spool it onto your reel a certain way it can help with this.
You’re likely using a spinner that weighs too little. When all that line is out it weighs more than the lure itself. Secondly, line memory. When using monofilament or fluorocarbon, the materials have memory and keep the shape of your reel( as it gets colder the line gets stiffer and continues this). Easy fix is actually getting your line wet, another thing that can help is casting a heavy lure a handful of times before tying on the spinner and using it. You could even add a few splitshot just a bit above the lure to add weight to the end of the line. Hope this helps!
It’s normal, it’s called memory. The line holds a memory of the spool. I’ve heard people using line conditioner, soaking in hot water before spooling or even pulling on the line to reduce memory. I’ve never done any of those things and haven’t had any issues. I get memory but as long as you put tension on the line before reeling all that memory in you’ll be fine.
Spinners will worsen the problem if you’re not using a swivel.
there’s a video on youtube about removing line coils by this guy called Fishing With Nat. he has a bunch of other good vids too
mono moment
Line memory. You wanna use fresh line every year. New license, new line. That’s my rule of thumb anyway. Some say more often, some say less, but once a year seems to work for me.
Is it “el cheapo” line?
It’s cheap mono that came on the combo. Between having a lot of memory and likely not having much tension when reeling in, it’s not going to behave. Respool with braid or a good quality mono or copolymer. Maybe try 4lb test or 10lb braid.
Plan ahead when buying line, you need a week or two. Remove label from new spool and scrub adhesive off. Soak it in water for week or two. That will condition it and remove existing memory.
Or you can put it in very warm not boiling water and let it soak overnight. I don’t know if one is better but I’d guess the former is as heat wrecks stuff.
And yes you can remove spool from reel and soak that.
When the line starts looking like this it’s time to replace
You have memory in the line. With a reel the line is wrapped in coils around the spool, which is attributing to the line wrapping like that as there isn’t enough tension to pull the line back straight.
Also with an inline spinner, you are also adding additional wraps to the line as the spinner indicative of it’s name spins. Which can be alleviated with a swivel.
If you want to keep using mono, I recommend putting it in a tub of warm-hot water as that’ll help it straighten out. Otherwise, braid has the least memory out of all the lines.
Because it’s cheap monofilament which by nature has a memory and very much enjoys making fishermen’s lives miserable.
