I have been terribly negligent in organizing my fly boxes; basically beads vs non-beads, small to large. Dries, streamers and mops/worms separate. When I tie I haven't been keeping the various flies categorized; what has a tungsten bead, what's been wrapped with lead, hook size and weight, etc. I am quite surprised by the weight of some of the flies when they go on the scale, either much heavier or lighter than I would have thought.

I am going to reorganize the boxes based upon weights, with dries and streamers separate. This will (hopefully) make me more aware of water depth, current speed, where in the water column I want my flies to be, etc., and I am guessing this will improve my strike rate greatly.

It will be interesting to see.

  1. There are lots of ways you can organize your fly box(es).

I think organized by weight can be pretty effective. Especially if you euro-nymph. Nice work.
