Are these small mouth bass or a different species?
Im fishing a new spot , and caught these little guys and was kind of thrown off, especially by the one in the second picture. They don’t look like the bass I normally catch.

First one is large mouth, second one I believe is small mouth, tho I could be wrong

The first one is a largemouth for sure. I suspect the second one is also a largemouth with a really faint lateral line a diet with a lot of crayfish. I think that’s what makes their eyes red.

Looks like the first one is a large mouth and second picture is small mouth but I could be wrong!
Also, in the future, support the fish with your other hand if you are carrying them anyway other than completely vertical.
