I heard that to greatly improve casting distance, you use a tapered fluoro leader + thin line on the shallow spool. I have 300m of 22lb, 0.16mm x8 line. Is that optimal? And how does the tapered leader work, you tie it with FG knot and hope it will flie through the rings? Its thick first then thin, how you mount it? I'm totally new to this concept.

Rod is a 450cm (14ft) telescopic surfcasting rod, action 120-200g.Reel is Fishing Ferrari Carbon Black UL size 10.000. It came with 2 spools, deep and shallow.

When I bought it, I took the deep spool, filled it with 300m of ultra strong braided (0.4mm 106lb/48kg lol) and called it a day.

I was practising longer casts with this thick thread just by throwing harder and harder…until I cut my finger with the line. I have now a protector but havent gone to try and do the same. Somebody told me about the tapered leader and I want to try and configure it better.

I dont usually go to the beach, I go more to the bay and to a cliff.

Thanks!
