The first pic is my tank now, and the second is my tank 4 weeks from now. I dont remember what my wood is called but on all of the packages they stated that it would release tannins and cause a black water effect which im still yet to see. I have almond leaves to help add tannins too and still nothing, it might be something with my filter but im unsure. Also rate my tank, im always seeing other super amazing set ups and it makes me feel like i dont have enough lol. Planning on having shrimp and snails as tank mates for my betta when i get them all, tank is still cycling:)

Aldercones turn my tank brown overnight. You might’ve boiled the tannins out of your botanicals. I don’t boil my cones, i just throw them in and let them sink on their own which only takes a day or two at most
If your water was going to get darker from what you added, it would have done it overnight.
Do you have (activated) charcoal in your filter? That doesn’t help, if so.
My mopani wood turned my water brown overnight. I did pour boiling water over it twice to sterilize it but it still released tannins and made my water beautiful
I put 6 leaves in a 10 gallon and it became super dark overnight. since then the water cleared up because of changes though 😕
