I have very limited saltwater experience. But from what I understand, you want to pay attention to the tides. The best times to hit inlets are in the transitions, never high tide or low tide. You should go in knowing if the tide is rising or falling. If it is rising, that means water is flowing into the inlet, so float your bait from the inlet point into the bay. If the tide is falling, that means the water is flowing out, so float your bait from the bay towards the open water. The idea i a to get ambush predators to target your bait.
