Today I practiced a bit with the FG, at least to prepare the line at home. If it tears, I'll use a Tony when I'm fishing.

I'm having a really hard time keeping everything in tension, and the braid ends up being a bit wobbly because my leader get twisted . I noticed that in tutorials, the nylon is usually quite thick, so it creates a certain resistance to the braid, and I started to wonder if it might not just be a matter of visibility, but I need a thicker fluoro.

The one in the pic is for my light spinning rod. On the medium I bought a 0,48 diameter

  1. Not the end of the world if you lose tension a bit here and there while tying. You can ease the tension on the fluoro/mono and let the mono/fluoro untwist a bit, especially toward the end when there is a lot of line memory. You actually have to do this more at higher test/diameter because the line memory is greater. You don’t want the line memory to go into the weave and twist the whole weave.

I learned a little trick that made it all click into place. Make a loop at the end of your braid run it through the loop closest to the reel and back down to tie onto the crank. Set the brake so it can release just a bit of braid as you wrap the leader. This guarantees constant tension on the braid and it makes all the difference.
