Impulse bought a 10 gallon and don’t know squat about keeping fish. Set it up and let it filter for no more than 24hr before I got the fish. How can I avoid “new tank syndrome” and keep them healthy? Here’s what i’m working with.

First and foremost get a reliable water testing kit (API is generally recommended) to monitor water parameters and make sure they stay in the safe range for fish
Second try to get as many live plants as possible since they’ll be a big help and the fish will love them too
3rd neon tetras can be pretty fragile, being sensitive to poor water quality and often victim to poor breeding, so be prepared to lose some or all of them. Looks like you also have an albino cory in there, those guys tend to be super hardy but they do best in groups and at least a 20 gallon tank
cut that stem plant 2/3 of the way down and plant the cutting in the substrate. it’ll stimulate plant growth. your fish of choice does better in a bigger group. you’ll need about 8 or so for the fish to start having less stress. The same goes with your Corydoras. A 10-gallon is always recommended at the stores, but it’s actually easier to maintain water parameters if you have a bigger volume of water. The more live plants you have, the easier to balance the water parameters. Plants like Hornwort and Guppy grass can eliminate the chemical that could cause the new tank syndrome. And you can return the algae wafers if you got that for your Corydoras.
