Could someone help ID these nymphs found on the Boise River? I thought the larger one (second picture) was some sort of mayfly nymph, but I’m confused because it seems to only have one tail. Any help is appreciated!

  1. It most certainly looks like a mayfly nymph. I think it actually does have 3 tail filaments, but due to lack of water they get sucked in together.

    US has around 600 different species of mayfly. To positively identify the specimen you would definitely need to have a look at it with proper magnification and even then, nymph identification is pretty damn hard.
