All the carp I catch are pretty special to me, but this one more so. He lives in my neighborhood pond, and apparently loves the supa fruit 16mm wafters. It took me 3 times to land him. The first two times I messed up. I got him to the bank both times, but did not have my net in a good location. I let tension off the line (dumb) to grab it, and he was off the hook. I literally dove into the water after him 😂 twice! I was truly defeated.
I dwelled on my mistakes, and came up with a better landing strategy. Grab the net first! Get it positioned then fight the fish.
I was thankfully given a third chance to redeem myself last night. When the alarm went off, i stuck to my plan. I was hyper focused , and did everything to the best of my ability. I landed him, and I swear it was the same fish as before. I may have yelled some celebratory obscenities, and just took a moment to enjoy the win. As the adrenaline wore off, I remembered exactly why I got into carp fishing.
Fred weighed in at 6.8 pounds 23 inches in length. Not my biggest carp, but definitely the most rewarding catch I’ve ever had.
