If what I think has happened, has happened, what do I need to do, if anything?
Here are the facts:
-
Recently bought a paludarium. Seller wasn't sure what all was in there anymore, though he did say there was a pair of peacock gudgeons.
-
The female has been out all the time since day one, but only very recently did we see the male at all. He's the one in the picture.
-
The female looked very large, but we chalked it up to being fat. We did look it up at the time in case she was pregnant, but the internet made it seem like 99% of the time, the male eats the eggs.
-
The female suddenly slimmed down a lot over a night, and the male hadn't come out for any feeding since.
-
The female has been quite agitated and it doesn't seem like she's able to get back into the den she normally very peacefully shares with her mate. I went out last night and got some new hides for her to hopwfully decrease her agitation. This seems to be at least marginally helping.
So, if indeed this is a viable pregnancy, what do I need to do to make this go well for everyone involved? We are coming into the possession of a new-to-us-but-fully-established, 10-gallon tank (with tetras and an oto) which we may be able to shuffle fish around in as necessary.
I really love these fish, and I want to do what's best for them and everyone in the paludarium. I'm just very, very new to fish keeping, and therefore I'm a little bit like a shaking wet dog about this.
