Broke a 8 day no catch streak today

I have never been a swimbait guy, but an older guy on Fishbrain has been absolutely smashing smallmouth at the local reservoir. I messaged him, asked what he was using, then went out and bought the exact one—same hook and weight and all. After the first cast and my reel falling apart, I could have out-cursed an entire outfit of pirates. I chose to stay and keep fishing, and man, I'm glad I did. My mental health was declining, not catching anything.
