As the titles states my plants have startes to rot and i dont know how to save them or how to stop this from continuing.

Its a 4 gallon tank if i remember. Im using liquid fertilizer and it has a lamb built into the lid aswell as a big window in my room.

I also have algae building up but ive been told theres no real way to avoid that. These pictures were taken before i removed the algae from the glass. It didnt appear on any of the plants or in the water itself but just on the glass, filter, heater and thermometer

I dont have a fish in there yet and this is my forst aquarium so any advice would be helpful

  1. Light is on for too long and the algae could be out competing the plants. It could be extra nutrients from the liquid ferts. Honestly if it’s a dirted tank you don’t need extra ferts at all especially in such a small tank. DO you have a timer on your light and how long is it on for?

Fill the tank up to the top too please! I think 4 gallons is a little small to stock anything besides shrimp because of water parameters being so unstable in smaller volumes of water. If you don’t have a filter I would definitely get one, Helps with aeration and beneficial bacteria, I recommend getting a pump and sponge filters!

right now I would remove as much algae as possible, stop using ferts, reduce light time to 7-8 hours a day if your light is on for 10-12 hours and remove all rotted plants and replant the good/still alive ones. They will grow with time. once plant growth is better and no algae you can up the light time back to 10-11 hours. Hope this helps

  2. Clean out the rotting crap, replant the good stuff (might need to use sharp scissors to trim the bottom off the stems to prevent any further rotting
