I haven't really ice fished since the mid 90s. I remember my dad and his buddies had these but I can't seem to find much info on them or when you would use them. Wondering if anyone here has an idea.
Looks like a homemade jig pole, with a really nice stand that shows you when you have a bite. My great grandfather made a few out of old 2x4s in the rough shape of a duck. You spool the line around the notches on either of the long ends.

We use these religiously for targeting whitefish on Lake Simcoe. Spreader at the end of it with 3 minnows. The way you should have the tip up set up is when the fish picks it up it takes all the weight off it and falls forward, indicating there’s a fish on the other end. Hope that kinda helps lol
