he is one of 7 in my betta community tank. as soon as i noticed this i got him out and put him in an isolated tank. how do i treat this? i don't want him to die. it has gotten bigger since i took the pictures in this post. it's on both sides of his tail.

  1. That looks fuzzy and raised (like a small cotton patch) rather than flat white salt sprinkles, which points to a fungal infection or Columnaris (bacterial) rather than Ich, especially since it’s growing in size as a patch.

    Do not raise the tank temperature (which is the standard treatment for Ich) because if this is Columnaris/bacteria, heat will make it spread much faster and kill him quickly. Since you already isolated him (good job), treat the hospital tank with a broad-spectrum antibiotic/antifungal like Kanaplex (Kanamycin) or PolyGuard, or even Ich-X (which also treats Epistylis/fungus) if you are unsure, but avoid pure “heat treatment” for this one.
