hi everyone! i've had my betta for around 4 months now, so i'm a newbie to the hobby, and lately i noticed a slight change in behavior, mainly the fact that he mostly keeps to the top of the tank and absolutely goes crazy for the water filter to push him to the top as well. is this normal behavior or perhaps an oxygen issue? before anyone asks, the tank is fully cycled and the parameters are all good

  1. Your guy is very pretty!

Bettas are upper-column swimmers so it’s fairly normal for them to hang around the top. They also have a labyrinth organ they use to take small gulps of air from the surface. If he seems to be doing that *excessively,* it might be low oxygen.

If your guy is “leaning” on his side or seems to be buoyant to the point of struggling to swim down, then might you have a swim bladder problem, but he doesn’t seem to be doing that. He might just like resting on the floating plants!
